This month at WX you will find:

Creativity Around the Corner with Unlimited
As part of Our Year –Wakefield District 2024, Wakefield Council and Unlimited brought disabled-led art to the heart of Wakefield. WX proudly presents artworks from this programme by Hayley Williams-Hindle and Maddie Morris.

Hayley Williams-Hindle: Collide O Scope
Hayley Williams-Hindle is a multi-disciplinary artist from Huddersfield. Collide O Scope plays on “kaleidoscope, ” a simple child's toy that uses mirrors and shapes to create changing patterns only visible to the person looking through it. Just like a toy kaleidoscope, our unique perspective can change how we understand the world around us. Featuring lyrics by Maddie - “Within our chorus there are so many different sounds” - the sculpture reflects Wakefield’s cultural identity and heritage of its communities. Take over the artwork lights yourself, using different colours and patterns using the bespoke Collide O Scope app.

Meet the Artist, play with materials and make your own Collide O Scope: 5pm to 7pm

Maddie Morris: A Starling
Maddie Morris is a socially conscious folk artist blending English traditions with trans and autistic lived experience. A Starling was inspired by a moment outside WX, where starling birds tried to steal Maddie ’ s lunch. The term “common starling” stuck with Maddie, who saw a connection between these confident, beautiful birds and Maddie ’ s pride for living in the often-overlooked beauty of West Yorkshire.

Live performances: 5.45pm to 6pm and 6.45pm to 7pm.

The Wall – Tony Wade - Keepers of Time
Tony’s work explores the emotional impact that landscapes can have. Through painting, sculpture, drawing, light and music, his work celebrates the everyday local environment and focuses on details that are often overlooked. The artworks on display are a series of detailed drawings celebrating the majesty of trees, and connection through nature and mindfulness. Keepers of Time was originally shown at Yorkshire Sculpture Park in 2025.
