Join Wakefield Chanting Group for an uplifting afternoon of Sanskrit chanting, music and dance.

The event will feature two performances of classical Indian dance by dance groups, showcasing the beauty, grace and storytelling traditions of Indian culture. We will also enjoy a traditional Garbha dance, a joyful folk dance performed during Navaratri, the nine-night festival celebrating the Divine Mother and the feminine energy, or Shakti, that sustains the universe.

Following the performance, audience members will be invited to learn some simple Garbha dance steps and join in if they wish.

The group will also chant two Sanskrit hymns. Chanting has been practised for thousands of years and is increasingly being studied by researchers for its potential benefits.

Studies suggest that mantra chanting may:

- Help regulate breathing and heart rate,

- Support relaxation,

- Improve sleep quality,

- Promote a calm yet alert state of mind similar to meditation.

Everyone is welcome - come and experience an afternoon of music, movement, culture and community.
