The Wall is a changing display that celebrates creatives from across the Wakefield district.

Our second artist is Ellie Way, a designer, screen-printer and maker of local goods based in Wakefield. 

Ellie is best known for her Travel Poster collections which illustrate the diverse scenic, architectural and cultural landscapes of West Yorkshire.

On display is Ellie’s first collection of Travel Posters, created in 2020, which was motivated by lockdown blues and inspired by the local settings on her ‘one walk a day’ around Wakefield.

Inspired by the ingenious design from the ‘golden age’ of travel, Ellie digitally collages a variety of hand-printed textures with nostalgic colour palettes and typefaces to illustrate the sights and scenes close to us.

Ellie is hugely inspired by the people and places around her, she is passionate about working collaboratively with communities and businesses to produce unique design outcomes that celebrate our locality, heritage and culture.

As part of this exhibition opportunity, Ellie was commissioned to design a Travel Poster of our WX building showcasing the unique external façade and canopy. The 13 Travel Posters featured in this exhibition emphasise the beautiful individualities of Wakefield and promotes what our city has to offer in a distinctive manner.
