On October 10th Turning Point Talking Therapies Wakefield will host their third annual community event in recognition of World Mental Health Day, known locally as Wakefield Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day is observed annually on October 10th. It's a time for people to come together, raise awareness, and emphasise the importance that mental health matters.

In a world where information is increasingly shared and made available via the internet, this creates an ever-increasing divide between those that are comfortable with technology and have access to devices and resources, and those that do not or cannot. This is digital exclusion.

Wakefield Mental Health Day helps to bring together services from across the district in one central location. This year we have secured and are hosting our annual event at the amazing, Wakefield Exchange, a newly renovated public events space.

The primary goal is to connect the Wakefield District community with valuable information and local professional services - offering resources and support to help individuals build resilience and maintain positive mental wellbeing.

Turning Point Talking Therapies will be joined on the day by a range of partners, including Vico Homes (formerly WDH), MYHospitals Charity, Yorkshire Sport Foundation, Wakefield Council, The Hepworth, Wakefield Family Hubs and Mid Yorkshire Teaching Trust.

Joe Nicholson, Community Development Lead and Turning Point Talking Therapies –

“This day is to encourage anyone in the community to come together in one place and find out about all the different services that exist in the Wakefield District. We want to encourage people to seek support when needed but also feel more confident about knowing where to turn to and when. The services taking part in the event are not just for supporting mental health – with a variety of services offering support for the entire person. This is why we are displaying opportunities for engaging in sports and activities, community groups, employment opportunities, social support, arts and leisure.”

The event space will not only see many services come together on one day but there will also be guest speakers such as Steve Phillip, founder of the Jordan legacy CIC and co-founder of The Baton of Hope Suicide Prevention campaign that will be touring the country again this summer.
