Admissions Policy

The following policy operates for your safety and enjoyment in Wakefield Exchange. The policy is based on national guidance ensuring best practice, whilst also adhering to Health and Safety requirements and legislation.

Our aim is to ensure that all customers visiting Wakefield Exchange have an enjoyable experience. To do this you are required to respect our staff, property and buildings, as well as other customers and their belongings.

1. General Venue Rules and Information

These rules should be read in conjunction with the published “Visitor Guidelines”.

2. We welcome people of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, races, ethnicities, religious / faith traditions, and physical abilities.

3. Visitors must wear shirts and shoes at all times.

4. Helmets, hoods, or face coverings that could cause concern may be asked to be removed.

5. Children, under 13 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Children aged 13 and over may attend unsupervised until 6:00 PM. After this time, they must be accompanied by an adult.

6. Well behaved dogs are permitted at the venue.

7. Smoking and vaping are not permitted in Wakefield Exchange.

8. Please be aware CCTV is in operation 24hrs a day.

9. Photographing or recording any person, including staff, is prohibited without the authorisation of that person.

2. Behaviour

2.1 Any person’s behaviour that is deemed inappropriate by a member of staff may result in a user being asked to leave the venue immediately. The safety and welfare of our staff and other visitors will always be prioritised.

Inappropriate behaviour is any behaviour that puts our staff, visitors, or property at risk. This includes, but is not limited to, foul and abusive language, all forms of physical and mental abuse, bullying, harassment, discriminatory behaviour, and the mistreatment or damage of our venues or displays.

2.2 Any incidents of inappropriate conduct should be reported to a member of staff immediately, with serious incidents being reported to the police.

2.3 Inappropriate behaviour may result in a temporary or permanent exclusion from the specific venue where the incident occurred or, in extreme cases, all Wakefield Council Venues. Inappropriate behaviour from children who are attending our venues without a responsible adult supervising them may result in an immediate suspension from the venue for a set duration, for example the school holidays.

2.4 Any person believed to pose a danger to children or adults alike, will immediately be excluded.

– No running, climbing, or sitting on structures (furniture, barriers, fencing, etc.).

- No use of bikes, rollerblades, heelies, scooters, hoverboards, segways, or drones.

2.5 In the case of a user being suspended from visiting, where possible they will be informed by letter. The user will have the right to appeal the decision (see section 8)

2.6 Wilful or malicious damage and thefts will all be reported to the police.

2.7 Persons who appear, in the opinion of staff, to be under the influence of drink or drugs will not be allowed into our venue.

2.8 Groups loitering may be asked to leave the venue.

3. Health and Safety

3.1 Any customers attending Wakefield Exchange must report any accidents immediately, where our teams will make every effort to assist with First Aid if required.

3.2 This will also apply to any incidents you may witness. You will also be asked to provide your full details (name, address, contact number etc) as part of the Council’s accident / incident reporting process.

4. Exhibition & Display Areas

4.1 Please respect any ‘no touching’ signage or barriers

4.2 Flash photography for personal use is permitted. Any commercial filming or photography must be arranged in advance.

5. Events and Activities

5.1 Some events may have additional rules published at the point of ticket sale or at the venue

5.2 Capacity limits may apply, and access cannot always be guaranteed.

5.3  Refund and ticket policies will be clearly stated per event.

6. Group visits

6.1 We welcome organised group visits to Wakefield Exchange.

7. Opening Times and Closures

7.1 Wakefield Exchange reserve the right to close the venue or sections without prior notice when necessary.

8. Appeals and Complaints

Appeals against bans/suspensions or complaints about this policy may be submitted to:
